German income tax returns for foreigners with German income
Living outside Germany - receiving income from Germany
Anyone who lives outside Germany and earns income from German sources is generally taxed in Germany only subject to limited tax liability. In this case, you do not have to declare all your income worldwide, but only the income from German sources here. We will be happy to clarify for you whether you have limited or unlimited tax liability in Germany or whether you have to submit a declaration at all, based on your place of residence, habitual abode and type of income.
Limited tax liability in Germany also means that not all taxes are deductible
If you have income abroad, e.g. from a German company, the fact that you have limited tax liability will also reduce the amount of deductible expenses. Not all expenses that would be deductible for a person with unlimited tax liability are tax deductible here.

What do you have to pay tax on in Germany from abroad? Ask us!
We can advise you on which income you have to pay tax on in Germany. Perhaps withholding tax has already been deducted and withheld from your income to cover your German tax liability? This usually depends on the type of income. If you are unsure whether you have to declare income in Germany, we will check this for you. If you have a tax liability and do not comply with it within the deadlines, this is tax evasion and can be punished accordingly.
